Is what you do "talk therapy?"
This question usually comes from those who have spent years in therapy "just talking about it" without results. And then there are people who don't believe it will do any good to talk about it. Nearly every method involves a good deal of verbal communication, but there is a difference between "just talking about" an issue and "working on" an issue. Sometimes just talking is all that is needed; but often it is not. I have a variety of approaches and techniques that I use to move people beyond "just talk" into effective work on their issues, and I have little patience for talking that goes nowhere. One of my favorite methods - EMDR - is the farthest from talk therapy of any approach I know. It's especially a good choice for highly verbal people who have a hard time getting beneath the talk to actual experience.
